Village of the Children
Mission Trips
April 2009
We have a short term mission trip planned to Cachora and the orphanage on April 3-10, 2009. The team will be building relationships with the children and with others in the village. A major focus of the trip will be evangelism, which may include going door to door, showing movies in Cachora and possibly other communities, and talking to the children in the elementary school. The team also plans do evangelism in Cusco.
September 2008
In September a team from First Baptist Church of Canton traveled to Cachora. They were thrilled to meet the children of the orphanage for the first time and to spend time getting to know each other. A group of young musicians were part of the team. They enjoyed playing in various venues: at the orphanage for devotions, before showing the movies in Curahuasi, a concert in Cusco.
While the team was at the orphanage, they hosted a dedication ceremony. It was attended by many citizens of Cachora and a number of Peruvian officials. There were speeches, performances by some of the local children, and lots of music and dancing.
Everywhere the team shared the Gospel, the people responded eagerly. There is no more blessed sight than a multitude of hands raised as the people ask Jesus into their hearts to be their Savior.
May 2008
In May a team of ten people traveled to Cachora. The trip got off to a rocky start as the team suffered through a late flight, missed connections, and luggage which took the scenic route. However, God knew what He was doing and the team arrived in His perfect time.
The team was able to do evangelism in Cachora, Cusco, and other communities. They spoke to children in the elementary school and fellowshiped with people in the village. Some of the team members met with the mayor of Cachora and other community leaders, arranging some of the final preparations for opening the orphanage, including improvements to the road and selection of the children. The team enjoyed meeting our newly hired houseparents, Roly and Ana, and became aquainted with Francisco, who we expect to become the administrator of the orphanage as soon as we have children. Francisco is also a Baptist preacher! The mission trip was a blessing to all involved.
